Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers are our most important asset and they do a remarkable job for the animals, the shelter and our programs. Every day, a volunteer improves the lives of the animals here at Saving Grace. Our volunteers help thousands animals a year through fostering, dog walking, or working in our shelter. If you would like to join us to find homes for animals, educate the public or raise funds, please:

Once your completed application is received you will be contacted to schedule an orientation.

We are currently seeking volunteers who can commit to a minimum of once per week for 3 months or more. Individuals should be at least 16 years of age to volunteer independently.  Youth ages 10-15 may volunteer alongside a parent or guardian.  Please submit an application for both adult and child.   Arrangements for court mandated community service and volunteer projects for groups can be made by contacting us at 541-672-3907 ext. 111 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Individual opportunities are available in the following positions:

Kennel & Cattery Caretakers

For those who prefer work behind the scenes, you are needed to help care for the animals’ daily needs. Working alongside the staff, volunteers assist with feeding, cleaning, washing dishes, laundry, and of course, passing out treats and toys.

Caretaker shifts are 9:00am - 12:00pm daily.

Adoption Hosts

Adoption_HostAdoption Hosts are key in the new shelter, truly bringing pets and people together. We are looking for volunteers to showcase and care for the animals in our shelter! By becoming an Adoption Host, you are giving these wonderful pets an opportunity to be noticed by potential families. Hosts will:

  • Greet visitors
  • Answer basic questions about animals
  • Show animals to potential adopters
  • Care for animals’ needs such as refilling food and water dishes, washing soiled dishes and spot cleaning.
Adoption Host shifts are 12:00pm - 2:30pm and 2:30pm - 5:00pm daily.

Adoption Ambassadors

Are you a lover of animals, and people too? Then you might just be interested in our volunteer position of Adoption Ambassador! Your responsibilities would include greeting the public as they come into the shelter and presenting them with the various adoption opportunities!

Adoption Ambassadors shifts are 12:00pm - 2:30pm and 2:30pm - 5:00pm daily.

Admissions Assistant

Our Admissions Assistants welcome incoming animals and their people, reassuring them that they have come to the right place. Volunteers assist in answering questions, help clients fill out the necessary paperwork, perform data entry, and lend a hand in answering phones.

Admissions Assistant shifts are 12:00pm - 2:30pm and 2:30pm - 5:00pm daily.

Spay/Neuter Clinic Volunteers

SpayNeuter

Are you interested in the veterinary side of animal care? Assisting in the clinic may be just the experience you’re looking for! Volunteers will help prepare animals for surgery and monitor their recovery. Perfect for aspiring veterinarians.

Clinic shifts are every Monday and Thursday from 9:30am - 3:00pm.

Dog Walking

Guaranteed to keep you and the dogs healthy and happy! Every dog deserves a nice walk outside every day. Saving Grace volunteers take the dogs out for strolls around the property throughout the day. This is also a great time to reinforce good manners and teach your canine walking partner life skills - like walking politely on a leash, sit, etc.  Volunteers are asked to commit to one scheduled shift per week.

Photographers

Do you have a talent for animal photography or want to develop your skills? Photographers are needed to take pictures of our adoptable animals to post on our website. A little bit of your time can help an animal get noticed – and get adopted!

Foster Care Parents

Are you willing and able to open your heart and home to temporarily care for the needs of puppies, kittens, cats, dogs or other critters? Foster care is a vital part of the shelter’s ability to care for animals who need just a bit more time or special attention before they are ready to go to a new home. Foster care can vary from a few days to several weeks.

Off-Site Adoption Event Volunteers

We need volunteers to help with adoption events held at various locations throughout the area.  This involves picking animals up from the shelter and taking them to the location, holding or walking the animals while introducing them to potential adopters, and bringing the animals back to the shelter at the end of the event.

Maintenance/Grounds

The shelter has several acres of grounds and buildings. There is always something that needs to be done - gardening, minor building repairs, painting, cleaning up, etc. Your “handy” skills are always needed somewhere at Saving Grace!

Thrift Store VolunteersIMG_0935

Want to help the animals, but don’t think the shelter is for you? We need your help at our Thrift Store! The animals at Saving Grace depend on the profits from our Thrift Store for 20% of our income. Volunteers are needed to help greet donors, sort donations, assist shoppers and cashier.

Thrift Store Volunteer shifts are 10:00am - 2:00pm and 2:00pm - 6:00pm Monday - Saturday.
